Dr. Joy Makdisi is a board-certified dermatologist and a fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon.
She received her undergraduate degree in bioengineering from the University of California, Berkeley and her medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City. While in medical school, she completed a year-long research fellowship in nanodermatology, graduating with distinction in research. She then pursued an internship in Internal Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess/Harvard Medical School, followed by a residency in Dermatology at UC Irvine.
Dr. Makdisi then completed a fellowship in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology at the University of British Columbia. Her training encompassed Mohs micrographic surgery, complex facial reconstruction, and skin cancer management. She has authored over 35 scientific publications and book chapters, and presented her work at regional and national conferences.
Dr. Makdisi specializes in skin cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment including Mohs micrographic surgery and reconstructive surgery. She enjoys treating patients of all ages, and values the trust they place in her.
Born in Berkeley and raised in Moraga, Dr. Makdisi is happy to be back in the Bay Area. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, biking, yoga, and cooking new recipes for her family and friends.
