Josephine Hai, MD

Josephine Hai, MD, is a dermatologist dedicated to providing thoughtful, evidence-based care for a wide range of skin conditions. She completed her dermatology residency at the University of California, Davis, where she also earned her medical degree and completed an internship in general surgery. Dr. Hai earned her undergraduate degree in Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology from UCLA, graduating summa cum laude with departmental highest honors.
Dr. Hai has extensive experience diagnosing and treating both general and urgent dermatologic conditions and performing procedures including skin biopsies, cryotherapy, and excisions. Her clinical and research interests span medical dermatology, skin cancer, hair loss, inflammatory skin disease, and dermatopathology. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, including research on melanoma biomarkers, frontal fibrosing alopecia, dermatomyositis, and patient perspectives on nutrition and skin health.
Throughout her training, Dr. Hai has demonstrated a strong commitment to community service and improving access to care. As a co-director of the Paul Hom Asian Clinic, she helped provide free care to medically underserved patients and co-founded the clinic’s Dermatology Committee, establishing monthly skin cancer clinics.
Dr. Hai is passionate about helping patients understand their skin health and working with them to develop effective, individualized treatment plans. Outside of medicine, she enjoys pickleball, skiing, movies, and trivia nights.
